Proudly serving the Mackay community for over 125 years, Porters continues to grow with the region.

A young building contractor, new to Australia from Scotland, Charles Porter originally began the company as a building contracting business on 13 August 1883.

During these early years Charles Porter well established himself in the community and was responsible for the construction of many landmark residential and commercial premises in the area. He also established a timberyard and a woodworking factory - "making and supplying all kinds of joinery".

Over time, the company through a policy of diversification and expansion moved out of building construction and into the building supply trade. The timber yard and woodworking factory remained part of the business.

From these beginnings, Porters has developed into one of the few complete building supplies and hardware businesses in Australia. The company currently employs over 280 staff with six individual and dedicated divisions across four locations. Areas of speciality include building supplies, plumbing supplies, glass and aluminium fabrication, truss and frame fabrication, and hardware and lifestyle. Porters services the Mackay and Whitsunday region in Queensland, Australia.
